Rice rolls,
fresh in 2 minutes
or less.

新榮隆 · since 1985

Hand-poured cheung fun, steamed to order on a flat cloth and scraped off in front of you. A Chinatown institution since 1985. No reservations, no cards — just cash, a counter, and the best rice roll you'll eat this year.

Our story · 我們的故事

One cloth, one scraper,
forty years of muscle memory.

Sun Hing Lung opened on Henry Street in 1985, in a storefront so narrow that two customers standing shoulder-to shoulder is a crowd. The recipe was simple then and it's simple now: rice flour, water, a flat cloth, and a scraper.

Kenny took over the cloth in the early 2000s. He still pours every batch of batter by hand, watches the steam, and decides — by feel, not by timer — when each roll is ready. That's the whole craft. There's no secret. There's just doing it the same way, ten thousand times.

We don't take cards. We don't deliver. We close at 4:30 because by then the morning's batter is gone and that's that. What we do is make the freshest, cheapest, most honest rice roll in Chinatown — and we've been doing it long enough that the kids who grew up on it are now bringing their own kids.

Why bother · 為什麼

Four reasons to walk
the extra three blocks.

Yes, there's a rice roll cart closer to the subway. We know. Walk past it. Here's why.

Fresh, in front of you

Batter poured, steamed, scraped, and rolled while you watch. No holding bin, no microwave. If it sits, it dies — so it never sits.

Two minutes, start to plate

We've been pouring the same rolls for forty years. The cloth is hot before you finish ordering. Faster than a cart, fresher than a kitchen.

Priced like 1995

A plain roll is $2.50. A shrimp roll is $4.50. Hot soy milk is $1.75. Two people eat well for under fifteen dollars. Cash only — that's how we keep it cheap.

The same as it ever was

No rebrand, no delivery app, no QR-code menu. Kenny still pours the batter by hand. The aunties still eat standing up. Some things don't need fixing.

Yelp

The shrimp cheung fun here ruined every other rice roll for me. Translucent, silky, and the shrimp snaps. $4.50 and out the door in two minutes. Cash only — bring it.

Google

A hole-in-the-wall in the truest sense. You order, you watch them scrape the rice roll off the cloth, you eat standing on Henry St. There is no better $3 breakfast in Manhattan.

Yelp

Savory soy milk with youtiao. That's it. That's the order. Kenny remembers you after the second visit. Don't come at noon — come at 8 AM with the aunties.

No. Cash only, like the old days. There's a Chase ATM two blocks east on East Broadway, and a deli ATM around the corner on Mott. Bring a twenty — it'll cover two people and change.
